Firstly, congratulations and thank you for competing in the todays 31st Paddock Wood half marathon. We appreciate and apologise for the shortage of water at the finish which was exacerbated by the warm weather. As a race we have tried to reduce our environmental impact which meant us using last years cancelled medals, along with not providing bottles of water at the finish. These decisions were communicated to the race entrants via an email for everyone who entered before September last year and those that entered afterwards were made aware of this decision during the race entry process online. Despite having 4 water stations and 2 sponge stations on the course, it is clear runners expected and required water at the end of the race.
Trying something positive environmentally has caused some runners frustration at not being able to have a drink at the end. We have taken this feedback on board and for the 2022 race we will reintroduce water at the finish area and encourage you to recycle our bottles.
We did manage to get water in cups to runners at the finish, but I know a number of you that had already finished missed out. We as a committee apologise for this.
We pride ourselves on delivering a Gold Standard Race and acknowledge today we came up a little short.
We hoped you still enjoyed your race and will return next year on 13th March 2022. Entries will be open from next weekend via SportSystems.
Thanks for your continued support
